Blue Emerald Labradorite Floor & Wall Tiles
Blue Emerald Labradorite tiles bring the dramatic iridescence of Madagascan labradorite into a practical, precision-cut format for floors and walls. Each tile is cut from genuine Blue Emerald slabs, preserving the full spectrum of blue-green labradorescence that makes this stone one of the most visually striking materials in natural stone. The polished surface catches light at different angles, creating a living surface that shifts and changes throughout the day.
Sourced from a single quarry region in southern Madagascar, Blue Emerald is a type of labradorite feldspar known for its vivid play of color. The optical phenomenon called labradorescence occurs because of light scattering between microscopic crystal layers inside the stone. The result is a deep blue-green base with flashes of electric blue, teal, and occasional hints of gold that appear and disappear as the viewing angle changes.
Available in multiple sizes from large-format tiles (600x600mm, 600x1200mm) to standard formats (300x600mm, 400x400mm) and subway tile dimensions (75x150mm, 100x200mm). Each tile is precision-cut with CNC machinery to ensure consistent dimensions and clean edges. The polished finish delivers maximum color depth and light reflection, while honed or brushed finishes are available for applications requiring more slip resistance.

Surface Finish Options
Polished (Default): The most popular finish for Blue Emerald tiles. A mirror-like surface that maximizes the depth of color and the intensity of labradorescence. Best suited for interior walls, low-traffic floors, and decorative applications where visual impact is the priority.
Honed: A smooth, matte surface that reduces glare while maintaining the stone's color character. Provides better slip resistance than polished, making it suitable for bathroom floors, shower surrounds, and commercial floors where safety is a consideration. The labradorescence is more subtle under a honed finish, creating a softer, more understated appearance.
Brushed / Leathered: A textured surface created by wire-brushing the tile face. Delivers the highest slip resistance and a tactile, organic feel. The labradorescence appears as gentle shimmer rather than vivid flash. Ideal for wet room floors, pool surrounds, and exterior-clad interior walls.
Flamed: A high-temperature treatment that creates a rough, non-slip surface. Primarily used for exterior applications or commercial floors requiring maximum slip resistance. The intense heat alters the surface crystal structure, which slightly muting the labradorescence but providing exceptional durability.
Traditional & Modern Craftsmanship: Our production pairs traditional hand-finished surfaces—antique, matte, and bush-hammered textures—with CNC waterjet and bridge-saw cutting for exact dimensions on every tile. Large-format 1200×600mm and 1800×900mm tiles can be thin-set to minimize joints, while the same line also produces mosaic borders and waterjet medallions. Beyond polished and honed, leathered and bush-hammered finishes offer softer, tactile options. For a calmer, neutral backdrop alongside Blue Emerald feature areas, consider our Portuguese Grey floor tiles.
Installation Guidelines
Proper installation is essential for the long-term performance of Blue Emerald tiles. The following guidelines should be followed by your installer to ensure optimal results.
Substrate Preparation: The substrate must be clean, dry, flat (within 3mm over 3m), and structurally sound. For floors, a minimum compressive strength of 25 MPa is required. Uncoupling membranes are recommended for floors subject to movement or cracking. For wet areas, a waterproof membrane must be installed beneath the tiles.
Adhesive Selection: Use a high-quality, polymer-modified thin-set mortar classified as C2TE S1 according to EN 12004. For areas subject to moisture (bathrooms, showers), use a waterproof adhesive. White or light-gray adhesive is recommended for Blue Emerald tiles to prevent color alteration through the stone.
Grouting: Use a non-sanded, epoxy-based or high-performance cementitious grout. Grout color should be selected to complement the stone's blue-green tones. Dark grout colors can create a dramatic contrast, while matching colors create a more unified appearance. All grout joints should be a minimum of 2mm for rectified tiles and 3mm for non-rectified tiles.
Sealing: While Blue Emerald has very low porosity, we recommend applying a penetrating sealer before grouting to protect against grout staining. A second coat of sealer after installation provides additional protection in wet areas. Re-seal annually in high-traffic or wet applications.
Dry-Lay & On-Site Adjustment: Because Blue Emerald's iridescence varies from slab to slab, every batch is dry-laid and numbered in our factory before shipment, so adjacent tiles read in coordinated color and flash direction. On site, final cuts and pattern alignment are handled by experienced installers; over underfloor heating, a flexible S2-class adhesive accommodates thermal movement. For Blue Emerald installations we recommend 20mm thickness on floors, 18mm on walls, and 30mm for large-format or high-traffic areas.
Application Scenarios
Luxury Bathroom Floors
Blue Emerald tiles create a stunning bathroom floor that pairs beautifully with white sanitary ware and chrome fixtures. The honed finish provides safe footing in wet conditions while the labradorescence adds visual interest under both natural and artificial light.
Kitchen Backsplash
Subway-format Blue Emerald tiles make an extraordinary kitchen backsplash. The iridescent surface catches light from windows and pendant fixtures, creating a dynamic focal point. Pair with dark countertops for maximum visual contrast.
Commercial Lobby Floors
Large-format Blue Emerald tiles in hotel lobbies, corporate reception areas, and high-end retail create an immediate impression of luxury. The stone's durability (Mohs 6.5) handles heavy foot traffic while maintaining its visual appeal.
Feature Walls & Columns
Use Blue Emerald wall tiles to create dramatic accent walls in living rooms, dining areas, or commercial spaces. Backlighting with LED strips enhances the translucency and labradorescence, creating a luminous surface that becomes the room's centerpiece.
Care and Maintenance
Blue Emerald tiles are durable and relatively low-maintenance, but proper care ensures they retain their beauty for decades.
Daily Cleaning: Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove abrasive particles. For mopping, use a pH-neutral stone cleaner diluted according to the manufacturer's instructions. Avoid acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon), alkaline cleaners (ammonia, bleach), or abrasive cleaning pads, as these can damage the polished surface.
Stain Removal: Blue Emerald's low porosity makes it highly stain-resistant. However, if spills occur, clean them promptly. For oil-based stains, use a poultice of baking soda and water. For organic stains (food, beverages), a diluted hydrogen peroxide solution can be applied briefly.
Protection: Use felt pads under furniture legs to prevent scratching. Place mats at entry points to reduce abrasive particle tracking. In commercial settings, use walk-off mats in high-traffic zones. Re-apply penetrating sealer annually or as needed based on water absorption testing.
