About Taj Mahal Quartzite

Taj Mahal is a quartzite — a metamorphic rock formed when quartz-rich sandstone is recrystallized under heat and pressure. The quartz grains fuse into a dense interlocking matrix with very little open pore space. The name is a trade name: the stone comes from Brazil, not India, and it describes a family of visually similar quartzites rather than one single quarry.

Three materials are routinely confused in this category and should be kept separate. Taj Mahal is quartzite, a natural stone cut from quarried blocks. Marble is also natural, but it is a carbonate rock built from calcite or dolomite; it etches on contact with acids and scores only 3–4 on the Mohs scale. Engineered quartz, sold as quartz surfaces, is a manufactured product made from roughly 90–95% crushed quartz bound with polymer resins and pigments. It does not occur in nature and is not supplied in blocks. Taj Mahal Quartzite is neither of these.

The look can be specified by name: a white-to-beige fine-grained ground with layered grey veins and occasional warmer golden lines, and a mild crystalline sheen when polished.

Features & Benefits

Hardness and scratch resistance. Quartzite rates 7 on the Mohs scale, matching the quartz mineral itself. Countertop fabricators see fewer marks from knives, cookware and abrasive cleaning than on marble, and floors hold up under commercial foot traffic. The same hardness raises tooling requirements, so fabrication should go to shops set up for quartzite.

Heat resistance. A siliceous mineral surface does not scorch at the temperatures that damage the resin binder in engineered quartz. Kitchen installers can fit Taj Mahal around cooktops and pizza ovens without heat-shield concerns, though trivets remain standard practice for finished pieces.

Low absorption. Tested batches report water absorption of about 0.14–0.26%, which keeps moisture penetration and staining low for properly selected material. Dense slabs also take sealer more evenly, which simplifies maintenance on installed projects.

Acid resistance. Siliceous quartzite does not react with kitchen acids. Wine, citrus and vinegar will not etch it the way they etch marble; spills still need wiping to avoid staining through unsealed pores.

Production notes worth telling buyers. Like most Brazilian quartzites, Taj Mahal is commonly processed with resin fill and a backing net to stabilize natural fissures. Batch-to-batch color variation, iron mineral traces and filled veins are inherent to the stone, not defects. Buyers should approve slab layout photos before fabrication.

Applications

Kitchen countertops and islands are the largest use: the marble-like face with quartzite performance suits residential remodels, multi-unit developments and hospitality projects. Vanity tops, shower walls and tub surrounds pair the light ground with chrome or brass fixtures, and full-height backsplashes can run from the same slab set.

Flooring and wall cladding cover the other major volume. Taj Mahal works for interior floors in homes, hotels and retail spaces, for feature walls and elevator lobbies, and for fireplace surrounds and hearths, where heat resistance matters. Interior stair treads, window sills and custom furniture pieces are cut to project dimensions.

Taj Mahal Quartzite is positioned as an interior stone, and exterior applications are not recommended. Quartzite as a category is technically capable outdoors, but Taj Mahal is a premium-priced material and is rarely installed outdoors in practice. Published guidance is also split: one major European supplier’s data sheet lists the stone as not suitable for exterior use, while sources that mention outdoor use limit it to covered or protected areas. Specifying Taj Mahal for patios, pool areas or facades adds cost without a proven application base, so the recommended scope stays interior — countertops, vanities, floors, walls, showers, fireplaces, stairs and sills.

Why Source Taj Mahal Quartzite from Apexstone

Apexstone has worked in natural stone since 2004 — 22 years across quarry sourcing, block selection, slab production and export. That continuity matters for buyers who need repeated shipments of the same look rather than one-off containers.

Orders can combine slabs, tiles and cut-to-size pieces in one shipment, and production supports 2 cm and 3 cm thicknesses, polished and honed finishes, custom dimensions, edge profiling and project-specific packing. Hotel, development and retail orders are handled with layout approval and batch coordination to keep color consistent across phases.

Quality control runs before export: slab inspection, thickness and flatness checks, dry-lay review for bookmatched sets, and reinforced export packing for ocean freight. Request full slab photos, current batch reports and a quote against your dimensions; include project name, destination port and finish so the quote can be prepared in one pass.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Taj Mahal really quartzite?
Yes. Taj Mahal is a natural metamorphic quartzite formed from recrystallized sandstone. It is not marble and not engineered quartz. Buyers can confirm a specific lot with a scratch test on glass and a water-drop test; Apexstone supplies batch test reports on request.
Does Taj Mahal Quartzite need sealing?
Yes. Even though absorption is low, an impregnating sealer applied after installation adds stain protection, particularly on countertops and floors. Reseal when water stops beading; a pH-neutral cleaner is sufficient for routine care.
Quartzite or marble for kitchen countertops?
Quartzite. Marble rates 3–4 on the Mohs scale and etches from acids, so it shows wear in working kitchens. Taj Mahal Quartzite rates 7, resists scratching and heat, and does not etch, while keeping a marble-like appearance.
What finishes and thicknesses are available?
Polished and honed finishes and 2 cm and 3 cm thicknesses are standard. Leather or brushed finishes and other thicknesses are produced subject to confirmation at order time.
Is there an MOQ, and can I order custom sizes?
Tiles, slabs and cut-to-size pieces are produced to project dimensions. MOQ and lead time depend on finish, thickness and destination; send the project dimensions with the inquiry for a firm quote.
