Illuminated stone slabs are thin panels of a translucent natural stone — onyx most often, along with certain light-colored marbles, quartzites and alabaster — cut thin enough that light passes through. When LED lighting is placed behind the stone, the whole panel glows, turning veining and color bands into a warm, living feature.
We cut and prepare stone for backlit applications: panels are sawn thin for translucency, polished on the face, and can be bonded to a composite or glass backing for strength in large sizes. These backlit panels are used as feature walls and light boxes in hotels and restaurants, glowing bar fronts and reception desks, backlit bathroom and shower walls, illuminated countertops and islands, and display niches.
We select onyx and other translucent stone blocks with the color and grain that suit backlighting, and can coordinate panel layout so veins continue across adjacent pieces.
